PIDF’s consultation underway in Nuku’alofa

The Pacific Island Development Forum’s meeting is underway in Nuku’alofa with related partners to engage state and non-state actors to develop high-impact collaborations on sustainable development through the Green Economy.
PIDF is a space for catalyzing, mobilizing and mainstreaming action in support of sustainable developments through a green economy in Pacific Island Countries.
Hon. Minister of Agriculture Semisi Fakahau says the consultation is important as it is a step forward on the realization of the vision of the Pacific Islands Development Forum, of a Sustainable Pacific Society that balances the three pillars of development.
“Smart growth: Economy based on knowledge and innovation, Sustainable growth: Resource efficient, greener and competitive economy. Inclusive growth: High employment economy with social and terrestrial cohesion and equitable distribution of wealth. This vision of course resounds the sustainable development goals of the United Nations. “
The Participants at the consultation are from the government, civil society and the private sector will form the first Tonga National Sustainable Development Board.
It will be the first of its kind in terms of a multi-stakeholder forum being the focal point of a regional organization.
