Vaiola hospital records hundreds of suspected cases of cold and mumps daily

Health Officials are urging the public to practice healthy lifestyle as the only solution to tackle the two contagious diseases Mumps and flu currently an epidemic..
The Sister In-charge of the Emergency Division – Sr. Lolita Kupu said, Vaiola hospital has recorded more than 8000 patients in June with 80% cases being affected with mumps and flu.
Dr. Viliami Vao is urging the public to be more cautious as elderlies and young children are the most vulnerable section of the population at this stage.
The cause of flu is mainly from the negative impacts of the weather changes which causes- headaches, cold and aching with high fever.
Mumps have similar symptoms to flu but are more painful with a lump forming beneath the ear close to the neck.
He is also urging the public to practice hygienic lifestyle and take their medications appropriately and to drink clean water as much as possible. Parents should help keep their children warm at all times.
Vaiola hospital also recorded number of skin infection cases from unhygienic lifestyle and not consuming unhealthy food such as noodles.
