Arrests made by police for criminal offences continue to rise

The number of arrests made by Police for illicit drugs and public disorder from alcohol is on the rise in Tonga.
The Acting Chief Superintendent of the Nuku’alofa Police Station – Tevita Vailea said, during their operation safe street last weekend they arrested 104 people for consuming alcohol in public places.
They include two men from Tatakamotonga and Tofoa for possession of illicit drugs.
Vailea said, the operation was possible through close cooperation with community police and the public.
Most of those arrested are men but the report indicates some female offenders were arrested are on the rise as well.
