Rev. Makisi Finau Superintendent of Ha’apai FWC passed away during the weekend

While the Free Wesleyan churches of Ha’apai are gearing up to host the church’s annual general conference next year, they received the sad news of the passing of their Superintendent Minister, Rev. Makisi Finau.
Speaking to Radio Tonga News, the Chief Minister of the FWC of Ha’apai – Rev. Moli Mo’unga Fakava says, Rev. Makisi passed away after a short illness.
Since his passing all FWC branches in Ha’apai gathered to his home every evening to conduct special prayer services or failotu with the family.
Rev. Moli Mo’unga Fakava says, they will conduct a special farewell prayer service on Thursday for the Superintendent Minister Rev. Makisi Finau, before his body is repatriated to Nuku’alofa on Thursday.
Accompanying his body will be District Church Ministers in the island and many church members.
The 61-year-old church minister, Rev. Makisi Finau served as Superintendent in Ha’apai for about 50 days.
He’s survived by his wife – ‘Ana Haukinima Finau and 4 children.
Rev. Makisi Finau, commenced his pastoral career in the1980s, as a trainee Minister for the Evangelism Department.
He was ordained as a Minister in 1988, then continued serving at the Department until he was appointed as Director of Evangelism 1999 till 2010.
Rev. Makisi Finau went back to serve at the Sia’atoutai theological college in 2010 as a lecturer until his posting to the Ha’apai islands his final posting for the church.
