The United States Peace corps volunteer will celebrate 50th anniversary or golden jubilee of its Tonga service early next month in cooperation with the kingdom of Tonga.
The land mark event will be celebrated with various events held in Nuku’alofa organised by the Peace Corps office.
The US peace corps remains active in building grassroots connections between the people of Tonga and the United States.
The US Ambassador to Tonga Judith Cefkin says she is proud the US has helped foster relationships with our countries.
She says the fact is, they are stronger when they work together, and even closer partnership in the years ahead will be critical to ensure regional peace and prosperity.
This year also marks the 75TH anniversary of the US entering the pacific theatre during world war!
Since that time, they have forged long-standing, mutually beneficial partnerships with the countries of the Pacific.
Ambassador Cefkin says she has seen first hand how these partnerships have contributed to growth and prosperity in the Pacific region.
She says the US is a Pacific nation, and the pacific has been and always will be an enduring foreign policy priority for the United States.
