Commissioning new playground for Inclusive Education class at Ngele’ia GPS

23 children with special disabilities of the Inclusive Class at   Ngele’ia GPS appreciated the assistance provided by the US Peace Corps on Tuesday evening. This assistance was part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the US Peace Corps in Tonga.


75% of the assistance was taken care of, by the Peace Corps volunteers while the PTA funded the rest with community groups lending help as well.


Teachers of the IE class expressed their joy in watching their students enjoying the playground.


The IE class was established in 2007 by the ministry of Education as a pilot project and it’s in its tenth year now.


This is part of the ministry of Education’s efforts to fulfill its national and international obligation to achieving “Education for all “.


This also included the branch for early childhood education being incorporated into mainstream education policy.


The IE unit at Ngele’ia is headed by Matelita Taufa with two other staff and four teachers at the IE class for children with special disabilities.


The playground project marked the end of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the US Peace Corps in Tonga.
