Hon. Prime Minister welcomes 8 of the Mate Ma’a Tonga players at Fua’amotu Airport

Hundreds of family, friends, and relatives, along with ardent supporters gathered at the Fua’amotu Airport this afternoon as some of the Mate Ma’a Tonga Rugby League team arrive in the kingdom.

 

The Hon. Prime Minister as well as the Minister of Tourism and the Tonga Masani Tourism Group welcomed the 8 players, Andrew Fifita, Manu Vatuvei, David Fusitu’a, Ata Hingano, Tui Moala Lolohea, Sione Katoa, ‘Ukuma Ta’ai and Daniel Tupou.

 

For many of the families and relatives, the arrival of the boys was an emotional occassion.

 

There were tears of joy in Paula Loloheas eyes as he watched his son, Tui Moala Lolohea walk out from the airport towards him.

 

The proud father expressed his joy in seeing his 22 yr old son, join the team of rugby Mate Ma’a Tonga team to represent not only his family, but the whole nation, at this year’s Rugby League World Cup.

 

And as emotional as it was for the families, it was even more so for the rugby players.

 

Andrew Fifita, after being held back by official formalities, and a malfunctioning door, could not hold back tears as he finally got to embrace his father outside the airport.

 

Manu Vatuvei, one of the players from the English Super League, admitted this was an emotional experience not just for him but for his parents and family.
