Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 17/10/2017

The National Emergency Management Office – NEMO hosted a tsunami exercise drill for students and teachers of GPS Kolomotu’a yesterday.

The director of NEMO – Leveni ‘Aho says the purpose is to prepare the students to know what to do when a disaster strikes especially a tsunami.

Yesterday, students were informed with the appropriate pathway to take, evacuating from the low lying coastal areas to higher grounds.

The initiative was possible through close collaboration with the related stakeholders namely Police, Tonga Fire Services and Tonga Red Cross.

Kolomotu’a is one most vulnerable areas for natural disasters especially flooding and cyclones.

Similar program will be carried out to the communities.
