King officiates the biggest solar farm in Tonga this morning

His Majesty – King Tupou VI officiates the 2 megawatt Matatoa solar farm this morning with the presence of the Her Majesty – Queen Nanasipau’u.
This 2 MW solar facility is the first power plant to be funded by an independent power producer – Zhuhai Singyes Green Building Technology Ltd.
The Minister of Public Enterprises – Hon. Poasi Tei says, the initiative will reduce Tonga’s heavy reliance on fossil fuel.
“Many challenges weather if were conditions on the outset to complete the solar project on engineering and construction 50% RE 2020 this solar farm 5% the right partners can be impleted 2020. the reliance fossil fuels volatile prices can be alleviated. Energy vitally to social economic development fact that we are also conserving the environment to mitigate cc. the 70 thousand panelks should shave 6 thousand liters of diesel over the first year – 1.6 tons not being immidiate to the atmosphere the sun shining the impact will be limited. the bottom line reduce 10 % GDP every year every Tonga to imporve their economy quality of life development in the future.”
Chinese Ambassador to Tonga- H.E Wang Baodong says, the solar farm will reduce the amount of carbon emission in Tonga.
The Chairman of the Utility Board – Carl Sanft says the Matatoa solar farm would help reduce the electricity tarrif.
The project is worth more than 4 million USD or equivalent to 9million pa’anga.
The ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the largest solar facility to be built on Tonga was officiated by her Majesty, Queen Nanasipau’u on at Matatoa last year.
The blessing of Tonga’s 6th solar farm was conducted by the President of the Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga – Rev. Dr. ‘Ahio.
Also present at the occasion were the Speaker of Parliament, cabinet Ministers, diplomatic corps and distinguished guests.
