New Domestic Wharf reached 90% of completion.

The construction of Tonga’s new domestic wharf has reached over 90 percent of completion at Nuku’alofa Habour in Ma’ufanga.
The Acting CEO of the Ministry of Infrastructure – Kelela Tonga says, the project is expected to complete 100% by the end of the year.
The hand-over ceremony of the project is expected for January next year.
The construction of the new wharf is worth about 60 million pa’anga funded by the Government of Japan.
80% of the workers are Tongans led by the Japanese Construction Company TOA.
Once the construction is completed , about 3-4 vessels can dock at the new wharf at once.
The construction started in April last year under the Marine and Ports, Division of the Ministry of Infrastructure.
The purpose of the project is to enable easier access of sea transportation.
