15 foreign observers for next week’s general Election.

With 7 days to go before the Election Day, Tonga’s Election Commission has confirmed that about 15 election observers from overseas will be in the Kingdom.

 

The Supervisor of Election – Pita Vuki says, the observers are from the Commonwealth, Pacific Islands Forum and the US Embassy in Suva Fiji.

 

Some are already in Tonga with some are expected to arrive next week.

 

Meantime, there are more than 570 polling officials in place for 170 polling stations in Tonga next Thursday with majority are civil servants.

 

More than 50thousand voters have been registered for next week’s election, 70% from Tongatapu’s 10 constituencies, Vava’u with 15% , 8 % for Ha’apai, ‘Eua with 5% with only 2% for the people from the two Niuas.

 

Tonga’s Election Commission are working closely with Tonga Police to maintain peace and order during the Election Day.
