Her Royal highness – Princess Pilolevu Tuita this morning officially opened the Antibiotic awareness week for 2017 emphasizing the significant to always seek advice from a qualified healthcare professional before taking antibiotics.
She said antibiotics are a useful resource, so it is important to get the right advice before taking them to reduce the threat of antibiotic resistance.
HRH said the misuse of antibiotics puts everyone at risk, because taking antibiotics when you don’t need them speeds up antibiotic resistance.
Antibiotic resistant infections are more complex and harder to treat as they can affect anyone, of any age, in any country.
This week’s aims include, to make antibiotic resistance a globally recognized health issue, raise awareness of the need to preserve the power of antibiotics through appropriate use.
There’s hope to increase the recognition that individuals, health and agriculture professionals, and governments must all play a role in tackling antibiotic resistance and to encourage behavior change and convey the message that simple actions can make a difference.
