Police made 40 arrests during the weekend

Despite police arresting 40 people on Saturday night following Mate Ma’a Tonga’s win over NZ, Police Commissioner – Stephen Caldwell says he was happy with the public’s behavior.


The arrests that was made towards the end of the night was alcohol related offending such as fighting.


Commissioner Caldwell says, everyone enjoyed themselves and continued calling on all fans to continue respecting the law while supporting Mate ma’a Tonga.


He says, it was a well led and well-resource Police operation, with Police Officers exercising patience and professionalism, recognizing the significance of the occasion.


Caldwell says, Police will continue to organize and plan ahead for the next celebration in the upcoming game between Mate Ma’a Tonga and Lebanon and calls on the people to be safe and plan ahead for the safety of families and friends if they’re going to be out on the road.


He continued reminding the people that Passengers are meant to be in a vehicle not on it and.


Stephen Caldwell concluded by wishing the Mate Ma’a Tonga team luck in their endeavors to bring the cup home – same time for the locals, while enjoying the occasion make sure that they respect the law and respect each other.
