16-day activism campaign begins today to promote the elimination of violence against women

Violence and discrimination against women needs to be eliminated and with tomorrow being the international day for the elimination of violence against women, the Women’s Division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, have organized a 16-day activism campaign.
The Australian High Commissioner, H.E Andrew Ford was guest of honor at the launching of this campaign at Tanoa Hotel, this morning.
A 2 day workshop for district officers and town officers also started today on gender based violence in emergencies.
Lu’isa Manuofetoa – Acting CEO of MIA says Tonga is making progress in their efforts to eliminate violence against women, with both government and non-government organizations working together.
‘Onetoto ‘Anisi – Deputy CEO for Sports Divison of MIA highlighted the importance for men to also support and advocate for womens rights.
This 16 day campaign will involve different programs in cooperation with partners of the ministry and will conclude on the 10th of December.
