Taufe'ulungaki said the donation will help the students.
“For the first time in the new maths curriculum we have integrated it into that
particular program. So that every child in every primary school in Tonga, will be
taught the concept and skills of Soroban. This will aid them and master the basic
concepts in the four cooperation of math, addition, subtraction, multiplication and
division. But we cannot teach this concepts and skills satisfactory in the initial
stages without the aid of the soroban so the gift of this soroban is very welcomed.”
The Ambassador, HE Mr. Takase said that soroban is a simple but very effective way
for children to learn maths.
“It is helpful and beneficial with developing the skills of young students so as to
assist with their basic mathematical skills. These skills will prove valuable with
not only their secondary and tertiary education, but also with their day to day
life.”
